How much data does the free tier give me?
Free users get 244 MB of data per day (about 256 MB in decimal terms). The cap resets every 24 hours and is the same on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
What happens when I hit the cap?
Lantern does not disconnect you. Your download speed is reduced to about 128 Kbit/s until the next daily reset. Uploads are limited to about 5 Mbit/s, which is high enough that sending requests still works normally. You will receive notifications at 50%, 80%, and 100% of your daily usage, and the home screen shows when the cap has been reached along with the reset time.
Are there places where the free tier has no cap?
Yes. Free users in Iran, Russia, and Belarus have unlimited data. We are able to offer this because grant funding supports uncensored access in those locations, and because international sanctions and payment-processor restrictions make Pro subscriptions difficult or impossible to purchase there.
How do I remove the cap everywhere else?
